The global count of smartphone users increased by 49.89% in 2017-2022 and is still on the rise. In the U.S., 77% and 53% of adults own a smartphone and a tablet respectively. In the United States, there were 167.8 million online shoppers in 2020 which is expected to increase further to 187.5 million by 2024. With such a significant rise it is believed that in 2024 44% of the total e-commerce sales will generate $431 billion in 2022. According to a report, there are more than 270 million smartphone users recorded in 2023 in the U.S. and 79% of them have used it to shop online in the past 6 months.

Additionally, retail sales in the U.S. are expected to be more than 10% in 2025 which was 3.5% in 2018. According to a Statista report, 35% of online shoppers in the U.S. only shop through their mobile, and 31% of the total retail sales are driven by mobile e-commerce. Retail mobile e-commerce sales are expected to reach 604.5 billion in 2024 and $710.43 billion in 2025.

In Northern European countries such as Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark, more than half of the population uses their mobile phones to shop online. However, other neighboring countries have a lower number of smartphone users and hence, a lesser number of online shoppers.

Additionally, considering the current situation and predictions in the coming years, mobile e-commerce will account for 40% of the total e-commerce sales, and desktop sales are expected to reduce further.

They spend around $2000 a year irrespective of their income which is observed to be lesser than others.

Additionally, Gen Zs also prefer using their smartphone to shop online to desktop or tablet.

In the U.S. 90% of people aged between 25 and 34 prefer to shop online using their phone. They find it convenient as they often don’t have the time to shop offline and they always have their smartphone in the vicinity. This age group accounts for 32% of the entire mobile e-commerce shopper audience out of which 33.7% are women and 28.9% are men who make at least one online purchase in a week.

Though we mentioned earlier that men are most likely to indulge in mobile e-commerce shopping, women in every age group tend to use mobile phones to shop online as compared to men. However, only men aged 55 years and above use their mobile phones to make online purchases at least once a week as compared to women.
